G Em C D Heron tip-toes on the tow-path, as the morning mist hangs low G Em C D Then takes flight and circles round the boatman far below Em Am Em D Still silence interrupted by an ancient engine’s thud G Am C D G As the boatman steers his pride and joy reclaimed from the mud Though some may covet cruisers or narrowboats so fine His ambitions remained modest, he had no grand design All things come to he who waits his father told him so So, like the sieve he now steers, he’s content with progress slow G Em C D There’s no hurry, no worries Am D G If your wishes are few G Em C D There’s no hurry, no worries Am D G Your dreams may come true When the wooden warrior lost the fight and sank for the last time The boatman chanced upon a cruiser, white and sleek of line But with superstructure leaking and an engine block decayed He still recognised potential for a vessel tailor made For years the boatman cruised the cuts with family and friends Through life’s ups and downs, dark tunnels, deep locks and round blind bends ’Til the toll of time demanded more comfort for the crew And the cruiser left its boatshed steered by owner’s new Heron tip-toes on the tow-path, as the morning mist hangs low Then takes flight and circles round the boatman far below Luxury narrowboat he dreamed of purrs beneath his feet Now his wishing days are over, his dream is now complete © I H Bruce 2012 One of the joys of boating is making friends and when a couple who have been great friends for many years upgraded their boat I was moved to write them a song to celebrate. The song describes a fictitious situation which reflects upon their experiences without being biographical. The luxury narrowboat they bought was called ‘Hakuna Matata’ which is a Swahili phrase meaning “no trouble” or “no worries” hence the chorus and title. Though not intended for wider distribution initially, I have included the song on this site for the sake of completeness.
